Geoff Butterworth has watched the changes and developments of the area with an artist's eye - even in his former life as a motorbike-mad engineering worker! Being from Littleborough originally and now happily settled in Whitworth (each within a mile or three of Rochdale centre) Geoff will tell you he is an out-of-towner: it is this ongoing recognition of the particular character of each quarter and parish which imbues his work with the tonal variety, even somehow the accent, of each distinct settlement within the Rochdale mantle.
Geoff Butterworth's fame - and his commissions - have spread beyond Rochdale and the North West; and even beyond the United Kingdom. His watercolours are to be found in collections in Japan, the United States, Europe and Australia and cover subjects as diverse as aircraft, pop stars and outer space! Prints of his landscapes of the West Country, the Lake District and of course his home turf define in themselves a vision of the dramatic topography of these islands.
